We’re Surrounded!

In a recent Thought for the Day, Neil Glass wrote:

When by Gods’ grace we became Christians, God did not take us to our eternal home. We were left here to be lights in this dark world, a world that desperately needs the love and hope to be found in Jesus Christ, He himself said, “I am the light of the world.” We are charged to stand surrounded by a broken world and as Matthew 5:16 exhorts us, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.” We’re supposed to be surrounded, we’re Christians Thank God. We’re Surrounded

How do you feel “surrounded” by the world? And how do you react?

It seems like many of the people who go to church act just like the world. How do we react?

All around I sense the world pushing its way into my life, trying to influence me to make decisions based on the wisdom of the world and not God’s wisdom. My life seems so fast paced that the only victory I experience is when I start my day by praying and reading the bible. This is when I have peace, strength and joy for the day and I am able to give God control of my day rather than looking at the circumstances around me.

During the Korean War, enemy forces were advancing on a military unit known as the Baker Company. This unit was cut off from the rest of the regiment, and for several hours, no word was heard, even after repeated attempts to communicate with them. Finally, headquarters picked up a faint signal. Straining to hear each word, the radio operator asked, “Baker Company, do you read me?” “This is Baker Company.”

“Baker Company, what is your situation?”

“The enemy is to the east of us. The enemy is to the west of us. The enemy is to the north of us, and the enemy is to the south of us … and we are not going to let them escape this time!”

Ephesians 1:21-22, “Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else in this world or in the world to come. And God has put all things under the authority of Christ, and he gave him this authority for the benefit of the church” (NLT).

I found this posting very interesting. I always thought of the word ’surrounded’ as in Hebrews 12 where it says, I think, we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. I guess we are surrounded, but I think worldliness as my response to the world. The world surely has its problems. Sin is fun in the short run, but really, really lousy in the long run. The world is constantly influencing everyone. We do need to be on our guard. I watch too much TV. I am retired. I am active in church with kids, seniors, teaching, and preaching once in awhile. I agree with Donna Jesnso about starting the day with Bible reading and prayer. I am weak in praying, but my wife is really strong there. I will have to think about about my light, now almost a burned out bulb, and letting it shine more for the Lord Jesus. Thanks for the posting and comments. God bless
